South Dakota Wildland Fire Conducting Prescribed Burn

 

South Dakota Wildland Fire in conjunction with our interagency partners will be conducting a prescribed burn in the Hermosa area today (weather permitting). The objective of the burn is to target grassy fuels and encourage the growth of native grasses, providing a more favorable habitat for wildlife. Additionally, the burn aims to reduce the thatch layer, thereby lowering the risk of potential wildfires. Smoke may be visible in the area from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. today. Residual smoke may linger in the area for an extended period. Local dispatch and local volunteer fire departments have been notified.
